Can California Tortilla Become the Charlie Sheen of Facebook? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

The something-d-o-o economics edition of "The Rundown."

This time of year the air begins to warm and young men's thoughts turn to ... baseball. Well, at least this man's thoughts do. Even at 33 years old I think like I did in eighth grade when a classmate I had a crush on told me: "You don't like girls, you like baseball." Nowadays, I like—ahem—love my wife. I also love baseball.

The Baltimore Orioles open their season four weeks from today. The Nationals get first dibs a day earlier with an afternoon game with the Atlanta Braves at Nats Park.

On days like this, when the temperature is just warm enough to tease you, I can't think of a better way to spend a Friday afternoon than at Wrigley Field.

Unfortunately, I live no where near Chicago and I do not get the day off.

But some lucky folks do get the day off—well, at least half of it. They bat leadoff for today's rundown:

  • If you see a lot of young people out and about today, they're not playing hooky. It's a half-day for all Montgomery County Public School students.
  • What would you like Rockville Pike to look like? (Less like a desert of strip mall parking lots and more like an urban boulevard? Do you wish you could drive "The Pike" like you're cruisin' Lake Shore Drive in a 1961 Ferrari 250GT California?) Rockville is making . The city's Planning Commission will hold two hearings, one on Wednesday, the other on March 16, to hear your vision for The Pike.
  • Ferris Bueller missed school nine times. "Nine times." Make sure your family's not out sick with a free community health fair at the Twinbrook Community Recreation Center on March 26, featuring health screenings, a nutrition workshop, fitness demonstrations and activities for kids.
  • He speaks! Everyone wants a piece of now that he's a "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament champion. (As Ed Rooney's secretary Grace says: "They all adore him, they think he's a righteous dude.") The school system got its face time with the Richard Montgomery High senior and posted a short video interview on its Web site. (You didn't think we'd go a day without a Raynell mention did you?)
  • Charlie Sheen knows how to quickly build a following on Twitter. wants to quickly build its following on Facebook. Now through Tuesday anyone who "likes" the restaurant chain on Facebook will receive a special coupon for a free "item." If the page reaches 25,000 fans that item will be a free burrito, with a coupon available on Facebook on May 9. The page was at 15,223 fans as of early Friday morning. How does any of this connect to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"? How soon you forget.
  • We can't promise free burritos, but we'd like to count you as a fan of Rockville Patch on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @RockvillePatch. We promise not to use the hashtags #winning or #tigerblood.
