No funnel cloud sightings. That's the good news on this otherwise dreary day. (Well, that and it's really warm outside for February—though it's also ridiculous that we're talking about the potential for the weather to go all Dorothy Gale on us).
Here's a late afternoon edition of the rundown:
- Rain is falling across Rockville at this hour and could continue into tonight. A tornado watch issued this morning expired at 4 p.m.
- The Rockville City Council meets at 7 p.m. at . Patch will be there.
- The council's agenda includes a resolution to launch Rockville's quest to become a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Green Power Community and to launch the city's Green Power Community Challenge, which encourages residents and businesses to purchase green power. Green power is electricity generated from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas and certain forms of biomass and hydropower.
- The council is also slated to issue a proclamation declaring March 7-11 "Business Appreciation Week" in the city. Members of the city council and staff, Rockville Economic Development Inc. board members and staff and Rockville Chamber of Commerce board members will visit CEOs of Rockville businesses throughout the week in order to learn more about what they do and to thank them for locating in Rockville.
- A request by the city's Human Rights Commission that Rockville divest any city pension or other funds from companies that do business with Sudan is also on tonight's agenda. The Maryland General Assembly voted to take steps to divest from companies in 2007 in response to the ongoing war in the Darfur region.
- The council will also get one last cram session before the real fun begins with the city's budget with a final review of the fiscal 2012 budget.
- It's not all news that's yet to come on Rockville Patch. Check out today's last week for his part in a daring rescue of a motorist earlier this month.
- And remember, when news breaks we post it. But sometimes we tweet or Facebook it first @RockvillePatch on Twitter or at Rockville Patch on Facebook. Remember to "follow" us and become a "fan" (it only sounds like celebrity stalking, it's cool, really).
