A Redskins Rap, An Election Map and Car Seat Straps
It's the 'We want Dallas!' edition of 'The Rundown.'
Happy Tuesday, Rockville!
Hail to the Redskins! It’s another good week in Washington—at least if you’re a Skins fan.
I can remember a time when the mood of the region really did seem to be predicated on whether the boys in burgundy and gold won. In a town that could agree on little else, everyone it seemed, agreed on the Redskins.

That brings us to my new favorite song, courtesy of a Twitter exchange from a couple of weeks back between WTOP’s Nathan Hager and Fox 5’s Dave Ross:

He’s right, you know. That does look a lot like the former GOP chairman and “Lite Guv” of Maryland. How many other politicos, journos and Redskins can you name from the video above?
It’s circa 1986, the season the Skins suffered the most crushing of defeats to the New York Giants in an NFC Championship game at the Meadowlands. Ugh. I can still see Giants tackle Jim Burt in his undershirt celebrating with happy Jersey-ites in the stands while a concussion-addled Jay Schroeder had his photo snapped by The Washington Post as he limped down the tunnel to the locker room. (I can’t seem to find the photo, but from what I recall the Skins QB wore an expression that can only be described as “dazed and confused” in the photo that was plastered on A-1 of the Post the next morning.)
No matter. The next year, this happened to my favorite Skins team of all-time.
And now the “where have you gone, Timmy Smith?” edition of “The Rundown”:
