VIDEO: MOM’s Organic Market Gets Things (Harlem) Shaking

Organic grocer in Rockville jumps on the 'Harlem Shake' spoof in latest YouTube post

The latest YouTube clip from Mom’s Organic Market in Rockville makes us wonder if they’ve got organic fries to go with that shake.

The organic grocer posted a 30-second spoof of Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” on its official YouTube channel.

In the Internet video, a group of people appear in a backroom casually reading periodicals as Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” plays in the background and a lone dancer with a recycling bin covering the person’s face—whom no one else appears to notice— is gyrating in the center.

As with flash mobs and silly pet tricks caught on camera phone, “Harlem Shake” spoofs are the latest meme on the Web. The Baltimore Sun reports that more than 40,000 “Harlem Shake” videos have been uploaded to YouTube, amounting to 175 million page views.

The basic formula usually begins with a lone “dancer” wriggling in the middle of a group of people with something covering the person’s face. Then the video clip abruptly cuts to a new scene: Everyone is up and dancing for a half a minute or so.

The worse the dancing the better the video.
