Coming Soon: New Music Venue on the Pike

250-seat venue is slated for Pike & Rose development, mixed-use community under construction at Mid-Pike Plaza

A new performance venue is destined for Rockville Pike, the result of a partnership between Rockville-based developers Federal Realty Investment Trust and the Strathmore Hall Foundation.

Plans to build 250-seat venue at Pike & Rose—a mixed-use community under construction at Mid-Pike Plaza—were announced during the Strathmore Gala on Saturday.

Strathmore would be responsible for concert programming, booking and would manage event rentals for the space. Concerts would be presented on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Federal Realty said in an announcement.

“With the Concert Hall and Arts Education Center approaching capacity and the Strathmore name well established in the region, it’s time to reach out to ages and tastes beyond our current programming and facilities,” Strathmore founder and CEO Eliot Pfanstiehl said in a statement. “In this groundbreaking partnership with Federal Realty, we are both a familiar anchor to their new Pike & Rose neighborhood and a champion of the lifestyle they offer to their future residents and businesses.”

Perched near the White Flint Metro station, Pike & Rose is a $250 million project that is attempting to give the strip-mall laden stretch of Rockville Pike a more urbanized feel—a major step in transfroming the White Flint sector. The first phase of Pike & Rose, expected to be complete by 2014, includes two residential buildings, office space and 150,000 square feet of retail.

Strathmore is the second major entertainment anchor for Pike & Rose. High-end theater chain iPic Theater announced in 2012 its plans to be part of the development.
