Here are some fun things to do around town with the family this weekend.

 

Bethesda Outdoor Movies

Where/When:  The Corner of Norfolk and Auburn Avenues, Bethesda, MD 20814, July 24-28, 9 p.m.

Why to go:  Enjoy blockbuster hits at downtown Bethesda's 7th annual outdoor movie series! Show times begin at 9 p.m. at the corner of Norfolk and Auburn Avenues. A limited number of chairs will be provided and attendees are invited to bring their own lawn chairs. Admission is free!

Summer Concert Series

Where/When: Norfolk Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814, May 1 to July 31, 6 to 8 p.m.

Why to go:  A free summer concert series is held in Veterans Park on Thursday evenings from May through July. The concert series showcases jazz, rock and roll, swing and international music.

Morning Children's Concerts

Where/When: 31 S Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877, Thursdays through Aug. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Why to go:  Free concerts begin at 10:30 a.m. at the City Hall Concert Pavilion. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, lawn chairs and a picnic. A parking garage is located across the street from pavilion. Concerts may be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances. Call 301-258-6350 for more info.

137th Annual, St. Mary's Church Barbecued Chicken Dinner and Fair

Where/When: 18230 Barnesville Rd, Barnesville, MD 20838, Saturday, noon to 7 p.m.

Why to go:  Dinner (eat in or take out), jousting (noon to 2 p.m.), crafts, baked goods, children's games, country music, white elephant stands and produce.

Montgomery County 2012 Farm Tour and Harvest Sale

Where/When: 18400 Muncaster Road, Derwood, MD 20850, Saturday, and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why to go: 

  • Learn about farm animals
  • Purchase fresh produce
  • Buy bunches of flowers
  • Support the local economy

Agricultural activity that helps to promote the importance of agriculture; farm open house.

Farm Tour - Meet the Animals

Where/When: 167670 Whites Store Road, Boyds, MD 20841, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why to go:  Come tour Star Gazing Farm, an animal sanctuary. Event highlights include meeting the animals up close, hands-on craft classes and animal demos, farm games, snow cones and treats, wool, yarn, and crafts for sale. The tour is family friendly but please leave your pets at home.

Over The Line Festival

Where/When: Round House Theatre Silver Spring, 8641 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910, through July 30, various showtimes.

Why to go:  Round House Theatre presents a curated festival of music, theatre, and dance performances by Contradiction Dance, Clown Cabaret, dog & pony dc, Forum Theatre, Will Gartshore, Happenstance Theater, Emma Jaster, Brianna Letourneau, on the nOse productions, Jon Spelman and Tina Chancey, and Taffety Punk Theatre Company

Over The Line Festival tickets are $15 ($10 for RHT subscribers, senior citizens, patrons age 30 and under, and groups of 10 or more). Tickets to Taffety Punk performances during the Festival are $10.

For in-person sales and Will Call, the RHT Silver Spring box office opens one hour prior to curtain for that day’s first Over The Line Festival performance and remains open until 30 minutes after the final curtain time of the day. Tickets may also be purchased in advance at the RHT Bethesda box office, weekdays noon to 5 p.m.

Pricing: $10-$15.
