Video: Strathmore Rallies Ukulele Players for Guinness World Record
Strathmore's largest ukulele ensemble fell short of the world record.
Ukulele enthusiasts from around the area gathered at 's outdoor concert last night in hopes of breaking the world record for largest ukulele ensemble.
By the end of the night, Strathmore counted 944 registered players, beating the previous record set in 2009 of 851 uke players playing in unison. Unfortunately, the large group fell short. According to the Guinness website, the new world record was set just a few days ago on Aug. 20 in Helsingborg, Sweden with 1,547 players performing during a single event.
Local two-time Grammy-winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer emceed the Ukefest along with performances by Victoria Vox, Gerald Ross and former Strathmore Artists in Residence The Sweater Set.
