One month out from its Dec. 28 opening, new Bethesda restaurant Roof is nearly booked on the weekends, and it's gearing up for weekend brunch, starting on Jan. 25 and 26.

Hot on the heels of brunch is lunch, which starts on Thursday, Jan. 30. After that, the restaurant will be open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, for lunch Wednesday through Friday and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

The restaurant has what its owner and head chef call a "proper scratch kitchen," with house-made pasta, ice cream, pastries and more. Read more on Bethesda-Chevy Chase Patch.

Three sides:

Bethesda's Red Tomato Café (4910 St. Elmo Ave.) has closed after 20 years of making pizzas. The closure follows a lawsuit between the owner of the building and the developer and construction company of the apartment building under construction next door, Bethesda Now reported.

Building owner Green Tomato LLC "claims foundation work at the [adjacent] site caused significant structural damage to its buildings and ongoing construction activity means unsafe conditions for its tenants," Bethesda Now reported. Read the full story on Bethesda Now and on Bethesda Magazine's website.

Bethesda Now also reports that "Bethesda Curry Kitchen will take over the former space of Victor’s Pizza in Woodmont Triangle."

Two of the country’s best beer bars are in the Baltimore area, while a Washington, DC, watering hole also earned high praise, according to Draft Magazine.

Dessert:

Silver Spring's Urban Butcher offers a special complimentary dessert on Friday, Feb. 14: a S.W.A.K. (for "Souffle With A Kiss"). Urban Butcher—Silver Spring's new "nose-to-tail" dining option—opened last month at 8226 Georgia Ave. and specializes in whole-animal cuisine. Read more about the restaurant on Silver Spring Patch and on its website.
