Surf Report: Must-See Maryland Websites

Flood safety, lighted bicycle wheels and a new bakery for College Park.

Looking for someplace fresh on the Internet? Here is Patch's weekly round-up of must-see Web destinations — picked specifically for Montgomery County.

  • Maryland's had a few flood warnings lately: Fire Chief Richard Bowers has a list of safety tips up on his blog, as well as a list of roads that can flood easily in heavy rain.
  • Two Carnegie Mellon University students, including Baltimore native Ethan Frier, have posted a video that shows a novel solution to being seen at night when bike riding: putting LED lights on the wheels. You can read up on how they went about it on their blog, Project AURA.
  • College Park residents, a new bakery's coming this fall: College Park Cupcakes, which will be located at the College Park Volunteer Fire Department's kitchen and run by University of Maryland students.
  • Take a look at what WMATA's newest trains will look like at DCist.
