Rockville Doggie Dip Cancelled Due to Dog Flu Concerns

Police: 'The risk to an otherwise healthy canine cannot be ignored.'

In response to the spread of dog flu in Montgomery County, the annual Doggie Dip has been cancelled at Rockville Swim and Fitness Center.

Doggie Dip Day usually takes place at the close of the outdoor swim season, when residents can treat their dogs to an afternoon splash at the pool. The event had been scheduled for Sept. 14.

“The risk to an otherwise healthy canine cannot be ignored,” said Rockville City Police Lt. Eric Over, who’s responsible for animal control. “It is unfortunate that the City has had to cancel the event; however, the well-being of our canine residents is paramount.”
