Rain Tax Outrage, Comfort for Foster Kids, and a Dog on Wheels: Top Maryland Blogs

From the rain tax to a filthy fountain, Patch bloggers write about things that impact the communities where they live.

“The rain tax has outraged Marylanders across the state, and leaders smart enough to realize the unpopularity of this tax have found alternative ways to fund their priority projects,” according to Larry Hogan, founder and chairman of Change Maryland in a recent blog. “For the state to force these jurisdictions to implement a rain tax just proves this is another money grab by the O’Malley-Brown Administration.” Do you agree? Read more and leave a comment on the blog post: O’Malley/Brown/Gansler Double Down on Rain Tax.

Ever wonder how Google indexes search results? “Rich snippets allow companies to present details of their products and services to the search engines that ordinarily would not have been found in typical search results,” according to Thaddaeus Hubbard in the Local Marketing Muscle blog. See tips for small businesses in the blog post: Rich Snippets and Search Visibility.

“The little girl was standing in the doorway of her third foster home carrying her whole life in a white trash bag with red handles,” writes Cindy Rich in a blog post called The Comfort of Home about an effort to help foster children. Click here to find out how to donate suitcases and other items as part of the Comfort Case Drive—a joint effort of CoesterVMS and the National Center for Children and Families.

For dogs that love to run, jump and play, mobility restrictions can be heartbreaking for both pets and owners. The joy of finding a K9 cart, a dog wheelchair, for her Cavalier Spaniel named Harley is expressed in the latest blog post by Jane Reville. Read more of Reville's description of the cart and Harley's newfound mobility in her blog post: Canine Cart Enables Spaniel.

Trooper Jacqueline "Jackie" Kline of the Maryland State Police washit in Anne Arundel County on Oct. 6 as she assisted another trooper on a traffic stop on Route 100 in Pasadena. To raise money to help Kline with expenses related to her recovery, about 800 runners participated in the 5K for JK on Nov. 10 in Sykesville. In his blog post on Patch, Kevin E. Dayhoff included photos and wrote about participating in the event. Click here to see Dayhoff’s blog and more photos from the 5K for JK.

Patch bloggers are the eyes and ears of the communities where they live. When there was a fire in Dundalk recently, blogger Buzz Beeler posted photos: Photos Show Extent of Damage in Holabird East Fire. Another Dundalk Patch blogger posted a video and photos about a poorly maintained fountain: Dundalk Village Fountain Filthy Again. Feel free to share photos, videos and thoughts about things happening around your town!
