Moms Talk: Parenting Books

What do you flip through when looking for a parenting how-to?

Welcome to "Moms Talk," our weekly Wednesday feature about a parenting topic of local interest.

Each week we'll post a question by a mom about being a mom.

Join the conversation with your comments, questions and answers to keep the discussion rolling. Feel free to use links to point your neighbors toward businesses, services, events or volunteer organizations in our Rockville Patch directory or calendar.

When looking for answers on how best to bring up baby (or toddlers or teens) parents (especially first-time parents) often turn to the library or to Amazon.com.

The how-to advice is plentiful, as is evident by the online bookseller's 33,809 titles listed under the "Parenting" category (including a title that sparked .)

Expectant parents might load up on reading material—but might not know how best to search through all the titles—and with mounting expenses probably won't want to shell out too much when they find a book that's a "keeper." Those who are already parents don't have a lot of time to sift through a long reading list to find the golden nuggets of advice.

So how do you separate the books that are worth your time from those that aren't worth a dime? What books on parenting (and/or pregnancy) do you recommend? Any classics? New releases? Are certain books for certain families? Do certain books reveal certain universal truths?
