Kitty Carnival

  • Where:  12 Park Ave, Gaithersburg
  • When:   Saturday, May 18, 11:30 a.m.
  • Description:  Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County will host a carnival featuring food, games, prizes, and lovable cats, all available for adoption.
  • Cost: Free

Peony Walking Tours at Seneca Creek State Park

  • Where:  Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Rd, Gaithersburg
  • When:  Friday, May 17, 6:30 p.m.
  • Description:  Visitors are invited to join a Park Ranger for a relaxing stroll through the prized historic peony garden. Hundreds of peonies are currently in full bloom and stunning color. Visitors will learn how the peonies became Gaithersburg’s official flower. The tour will last approximately one hour.

Conversation Club at Long Branch Library

  • Where:  Silver Spring Library, 8901 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 11 a.m.
  • Description:  Conversation Club is for anyone who would like to practice speaking English and learning about the American culture. Please contact the library for more details.
  • Cost:  Free

Real Food for Kids - Montgomery Recipe Contest Tasting

  • Where:  Piney Branch Elementary School, 7510 Maple Ave, Takoma Park
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 12 p.m.
  • Description:  Families are invited to bring the kids and come taste the top entries in the Real Food for Kids - Montgomery Recipe Contest. Kids will taste and judge healthy school lunch recipes and will vote on their favorites.
  • Cost: $5/person or $15/family

Takoma Porch Music Festival

  • Where:  City of Takoma Park - Recreation, 7500 Maple Ave, Takoma Park
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 2 p.m.
  • Description:  Music, neighbors, fun and socializing with the community.
  • Cost:  Free

Family Fishing Derby

  • Where:  2600 Triadelphia Lake Rd, Brookeville
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  WSSC's Family Fishing Derby "Catch and release" fishing contest.  Trophies for fishermen under the age of 16 and plaques for those older than 16.
  • Cost:  Free

Big Nate: A World Premiere Musical

  • Where:  7300 Macarthur Blvd, Glen Echo
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 11 a.m.
  • Description:  Musical based on the comic strip and books by Lincoln Peirce, Book by Jason Loewith, Lyrics by Chris Youstra & Jason Loewith.
  • Cost: $19

Poplar Spring's 10th Annual Run for the Animals: 5K Race 1 Mile Fun Walk

  • Where:  2000 Shorefield Rd, Silver Spring
  • When:  Sunday, May 18, 8 a.m.
  • Description:   Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is hosting its 10th annual "Run for the Animals." The 5K run and 1 mile fun walk is a fundraiser dedicated to supporting the life-saving work Poplar Spring does every day.
  • Cost: $25

Team River Runner's Women’s Kayaking Trip

  • Where:  5007 Stone Rd, Rockville
  • When:   Saturday, May 18
  • Description:   On May 18 a group of women will travel to San Juan to raft or kayak Class II rapids. This event is sponsored by ASA Durango and Team River Runner. 
  • Cost:  Free
