Twinbrook’s Bike to Work Day draws cyclists despite rain

About 20 die-hard cyclists pedaled through Twinbrook on Friday as part of the community’s second annual Bike to Work Day, braving torrential rain to demonstrate how cycling can be a healthy, fun way to get to work. The more than 120 cyclists who had registered for the Twinbrook event are encouraged to give bicycling to work another try in better weather on this Friday, May 23.

“We are thrilled to see such enthusiasm for the power of commuting by bicycle, even in less than perfect weather conditions,” said Ashley Lambdin, director of the Twinbrook Partnership, a private neighborhood and business alliance that promotes Rockville’s Twinbrook community. “Twinbrook is so well-located with transit and good roads that we believe bicycling is a natural fit for our community.”

Regionally Bike to Work Day 2014 attracted participants to almost 80 pit stops throughout the Washington Metro area, including the location on Fishers Lane in Twinbrook. Sponsored by the Twinbrook Partnership, the pit stop offered participants access to several bicycle repair stations. Professionals from Revolution Cycles Rockville were on hand to pump tires, lubricate bike chains, perform minor shifting and brake adjustments, repair flat tires and evaluate the overall condition of participants’ bicycles.

Twinbrook’s Bike to Work Day pit stop reflects a commitment by the Twinbrook Partnership to making the district, which includes premiere area employers such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institutes of Health, more pedestrian- and bike-friendly.
