Citrus Sale Boosts Blair and Shepherds Table

Montgomery Blair High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is running a citrus sale to benefit special school programs and also homeless people at Shepherds Table food kitchen in Silver Spring.

Oranges, grapefruit, tangelos and clementines will be picked in Florida, and delivered to the school within 24 hours of picking. The deadline for ordering fruit is November 14. Fruit will be ready for pick up on December 7 at the Blair Athletic Field Concession Stand, 51 University Boulevard East, Silver Spring. Anyone in the community can place orders at www.blaircitrus.com . When ordering, people can choose to order for pick up, order for donating to Shepherds Table, and order fruit as gifts to be shipped around the country.

“When you support this Citrus Sale, you are not only feeding people, but also you support the things that unite the school and the community, enhance learning, and keep people coming back,” said Principal Renay Johnson.

BLISS Tutoring, outreach for African American/Hispanic/multicultural groups, translation equipment for non-English speaking parents, supplemental counseling and advisory activities, and a much-needed water fountain on the athletic fields are supported from the raised money. The citrus sale is the largest fundraiser for the Blair PTSA; it earned $12,000 in revenue last year. PTSA Citrus Chairman, Rebecca Smith, said the Citrus Sale has been supporting the Blair community for more than 20 years.
