Celebrate Montgomery County's 237th birthday with music, games, and cake!

Join us on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. as we celebrate
Montgomery County's 237th birthday!

Montgomery County, Maryland was created on September 6, 1776.  Each year the Historical Society, joined by many other historical and cultural groups from around the area, celebrates the founding of the county with a FREE birthday party!  The party features games, crafts, activities, lectures, music, re-enactors, exhibits, and more.  We top it off with birthday cake for all.  Don't miss it!

PRESENTATION: Glenn Wallace will speak about his work on documenting the Monocacy Cemetery, at 2:15.
Glenn Wallace, an architectural graduate living in Montgomery Village, has invested the last seven years to archiving Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville.  This work includes the mapping of the burial ground, photographing every gravestone, researching the family trees of every person buried there, and creating a complete digital database that will benefit not only the cemetery itself, but also those interested in researching their relatives who lived in this area.

MUSIC: Players from the Sunshine Skiffle Band, a Washington-area favorite, will perform a set of jug band music at 3:15.
(Why a jug band? Our current exhibit on laundry features washboards and washtubs, both of which can be turned into instruments in the hands of a jug band musician.)
