You said it | Readers respond to ‘Big House Backlash’
If comments are indication, Patch readers have strong feelings about mansionization and seemed in favor of placing more restrictions on what sort of homes can be built in certain neighborhoods. The Rockville City Council discussed the issue last week. Here’s what a couple Patch readers had to say:

I love living in my planned community which restricts exterior changes in homes. I feel safe. I 'm glad that it has not become a zoo of all sized and shaped houses that dwarf other houses or maybe that is a phenomenon more like a jungle where larger animals devour the small. The social implications are enormous.

I agree with Karen. Fortunately my neighborhood does not see too many additions that are out-of-place when compared to neighboring homes. However, when I do see a house where an addition is over-sized or doesn't fit stylistically with the other homes, I wonder first whether there was any thought put into resale, and also how the neighbors must feel because it undoubtedly could affect their resale ability/value as well. It's a worthwhile endeavor for the Council to consider options to protect the investments of the other homeowners on the block.
