DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, September 16\, Oakdale Emory United Methodist C
 hurch in Olney will break ground for Phase 1 of our &ldquo\;Faith Is Bui
 lding&rdquo\; Campus Expansion Plan. We are excited about this $3.5 mill
 ion project that will enable us to better serve the people of our commun
 ity and congregation. An outdoor worship service will be held at 9:30 a.
 m. and the groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m.\, follo
 wed by a country- style lunch and fun activities for all ages.\nRepresen
 tatives of Sandy Spring Bank\, Alexander Design Studio (ADS) and Scott L
 ong Construction will be in attendance. Other invited guests include res
 idents and business owners from the surrounding neighborhood. Oakdale Em
 ory Church\, located at Georgia Ave (MD Route 97) and Emory Church Road&
 mdash\;just north of the Inter-county Connector.\nOakdale Emory has been
  serving the Olney area since 1801 and today it is a congregation of 1\,
 300 people\, led by Pastors Kevin Baker and David Deans. The church offe
 rs vibrant worship\, Bible-based teaching\, safe and fun children&rsquo\
 ;s programs\, energetic youth activities\, caring support groups\, and m
 any opportunities to serve and impact the world for Jesus Christ.\nSome 
 of the highlights of this project include:\n\nCreating a prominent and w
 elcoming entrance along      Georgia Avenue.\nImproving access into and 
 through the church for      persons with disabilities.\nAdding 100+ seat
 s to the main Sanctuary.\nProviding a central common space (also known a
 s a      &ldquo\;Third Place&rdquo\;) that can be used seven days&mdash\
 ;and evenings&mdash\;a week for      informal gatherings.\nProviding add
 itional meeting/classroom space\nProviding nursery space that is more ac
 cessible and conveniently      located.\n\nOakdale Emory Church&rsquo\;s
  goal is &ldquo\;to take the Gospel into all of life\,&rdquo\; and we ar
 e striving to be Christ-centered by focusing on Jesus and what it means 
 to follow Him\; to Offer Radical Hospitality by welcoming everyone as a 
 member of God&rsquo\;s family\; to Transform Lives through a personal re
 lationship with Jesus\; to Reflect Demographic Diversity of the local co
 mmunity\; to Provide an Oasis where people can come for rest and rejuven
 ation\; and to Spread Contagious Faith by sharing our faith stories with
  others.
