The 90-degree days and absence of the “Godfather of Funk” George Clinton did not appear to deter attendees from kicking off the summer at Hometown Holidays on Saturday and Sunday. About 60,000 to 70,000 people attended the annual Memorial Day celebration in Rockville Town Center, which is “fairly typical” compared to years past, Rockville spokeswoman JoAnn Grbach said Tuesday. Grbach said a few people asked about the absence of Clinton, Sunday’s initial headliner who canceled his appearance in Rockville due to a staph infection in his leg. “But it seemed like a lot of people had gotten the …
Rockville’s Hometown Holidays got a little bit "Glee"-ful this year with a concert from three Thomas S. Wootton High School a cappella groups. The all-male Supertonics, all-female Acabellas and mixed Chaos entertained fellow students and family members and happy Hometown Holidays attendees who found some shade on the walls in front of the Red Brick Courthouse on a hot Saturday afternoon. Talking before the concert, the groups’ managers were quick to correct comparisons to the hit Fox television show "Glee." "We’re not a show choir. We’re an a cappella group," said Acabellas manager Stephanie…
This year marked the 23rd annual Rockville Hometown Holiday celebration. With tents covering displays by nonprofits, musical performers, an art and craft festival, teen party, rides for the kids and some of the best food around, it was easy to feel festive in Rockville Town Center. From kids in strollers to teens and adults performing, there was a lot to do and see. The Chen family was there to have some fun and celebrate. They took time to chat with the Buffalo Wild Wings mascot. Kristina and Alexandra Wilder, grateful for the fans and breeze, were on hand to perform with Miss Chianti's …
Rockville celebrated its annual Hometown Holidays on Saturday and Sunday with live music, parades, food and more.
Hometown Holidays means games, food and concerts. But the festival also helps to support the causes of several nonprofit organizations. Jackie Price, a 16-year-old junior at Col. Zadok Magruder High School is a big part of one those causes. Price organizes a bake sale for Share Our Strength, a nonprofit whose goal is to end childhood hunger in America by 2015. However, this is no ordinary bake sale. “Jackie is passionate and dedicated not only to our cause but to her friends and community. When she takes something on, she does it big,” said Jessica Bomberg, the senior coordinator for the …

Original post, 12:01 p.m.: If you want the funk, Rockville Town Center is the place to be on Sunday night. Rockville’s 23rd annual Hometown Holidays will welcome George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic as the headlining act of the city’s …
Update, 12:55 p.m.: Taj Mahal and the Trio will perform as Sunday's headlining act at Rockville's Hometown Holidays, replacing George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic after the funk legend was reportedly admitted to the hospital for a staph infection in his leg. Festival, where Clinton was scheduled to perform on Saturday in Hartford, CT, said that appearance has also been canceled. Taj Mahal, a 1997 Grammy winner for the album "Senor Blues," …
