What's Your Grit Score?

With “grit” now the new measure of success for Montgomery County Public School students, aren’t you just dying to know your grit score?

You can read about grit—the new MCPS craze—here and here.

So, what is your grit score?

Mine?  A solid 36!  That’s measured on a scale of 17 points to 40 points, with 17 points being not gritty at all to 40 points being gritty all the way.

For those who want to calculate their own grit number, go here.

And if you’re short on time, just use the “Brief Grit” score.

Who knew that figuring out grit could be this easy!

Your score doesn't match up with the test you linked.

Valerie is right. My score is from the "brief grit" scale and not the complete or entire scale. However, the link provides details on how to score the shorter or complete version of the scale.

It still doesn't work out to a number between 17-40...directions have you assign each answer a number from 1-5 and then take the averages of different groups of questions to get the scores...

Valerie--I owe lunch or something. Thanks for reading and being gritty because I'm definitely not being gritty about this scoring thing at all.

Let’s try again. So, after following the directions for scoring, you can come up with both a brief Grit score (8 questions) and a total or overall Grit score (12 questions). Either scores range from a 1 (not gritty) to a 5 (very gritty).

The 8 question-score (brief Grit) ranges from a low score of 1 to a high 5. You score ‘1’ by answering all 8 questions with ‘1s’ (the average of 8 ‘1s’ = 1 or 8 divided by 8 = 1), and you score a ‘5’ by answering all 8 questions with ‘5s’ (the average of 8 ‘5s’ = 5 or 40 divided by 8 = 5).

The 12 question-score (total or overall Grit) ranges from a low score of 1 to a high 5. You score ‘1’ by answering all 12 questions with ‘1s’ (the average of 12 ‘1s’ = 1 or 12 divided by 12 = 1), and you score a ‘5’ by answering all 12 questions with ‘5s’ (the average of 12 ‘5s’ = 5 or 60 divided by 12 = 5).
