Our Favorite Restaurants in Rockville

I counted them up and learned that we have enjoyed 32 restaurants in Rockville in the past two years, some more than once, and some several times. My wife and I go for lunch twice a week after the gym; and I go by myself after a meeting, after golf at Redgate, or shopping.

My favorite for lunch is the Mosaic, famous for waffles, but offering lots more. This is a chef owned restaurant with the chef in attendance. Mosaic’s soups reflect a lot of work and their three-soup sampler is something everyone should enjoy. Service is great. In addition, the noise level is moderate so you can have a conversation with your partner.

For bargains and top quality, I like the Silver Diner and its focus on healthy eating. Another bargain, is Panera, which has great lunches although the place is packed and a little hectic until mid afternoon. They need a larger facility.

For the best breakfast with eggs, bacon, corned beef hash, and grits, or potatoes, I like the original Ambrosia near the Giant on lower Rockville Pike.

More later.

FYI, the "original" Ambrosia was located for decades on the Rockville Pike just south of Congressional Plaza. When that strip shopping center was redeveloped, the two owners each opened new Ambrosias. I prefer Ambrosia Grille, at 802 Hungerford Drive.

The "Pike Pub" preceeded the original Ambrosia near Congressional Plaza I believe. It was a frequent "watering hole" for us. I think the Pike Pub closed in the late 1970's, replaced by Ambrosia. I remember we were not happy...
