LIFTing Students to the Next Level

Christ Episcopal School (CES), serving preschool 2’s – grade 8, and The Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Technology in Education (JHU/CTE) have developed a new and innovative educational model.  LIFT: Learning Integration for Tomorrow™ will guide students towards acquiring deep understanding of content and building 21st century skills allowing them to thrive at CES and beyond.  While maintaining a strong focus on the basics, LIFT places students in strategic, high-performance groups to solve real-world problems in all subject areas.  “The focus of the model moves from simply knowing to creating, from the individual to the team, and from the consumption of information to the construction of meaning,” said Dr. Judy Dudley, Assistant Head of School at CES.

LIFT began this summer with the team of leaders from JHU/CTE working alongside CES teachers and administrators to integrate the model into the already strong academic and service-learning curriculum.

“We have and will continue collaborating with CES educators to incorporate the best teaching practices and technologies into their academic program,” said Dr. Lynne Mainzer, Deputy Director of the Center for Technology in Education.  “The beauty of this relationship with CES is that it will give us the opportunity to put into practice throughout an entire school what some of the best educational research is showing has positive impact on student learning and achievement.  Such an opportunity is highly unique.  I anticipate that CES will become a model program for how to prepare students for the rapidly changing future they face.”

Dr. Caroline Chapin, Head of School at CES, was instrumental in cultivating the partnership with JHU/CTE and is excited about how LIFT will impact students’ understanding of the world.  “Instead of just learning, students are experiencing.  With LIFT, our students will not just be learning science; they will be learning to think like scientists.”

Christ Episcopal School is proud to provide students and families the best education possible.  In a world that is ever changing, LIFT will give them the tools to thrive beyond.
