The buzz of a gorgeous spring evening in Rockville Town Center on Friday was pierced with the sirens of speeding police cruisers and running police officers.
Patrons of the downtown business district were left wondering what was going on.
Around 7 p.m., @ewechtal sent these messages to @RockvillePatch via Twitter:
@RockvillePatch what was it about? there was one cop arresting someone, moments later there were a dozen cars.
On Monday, Rockville City Police Chief Terrance N. Treschuk responded to a Rockville Patch inquiry about the police activity with the following email:
We had several instances of young people causing some disturbances throughout the Town center area on Friday evening. Town Center Security asked for assistance from the Police Department. Through the investigations, two arrests were made.
Friday’s commotion in Town Center started with a police investigation of a shooting that occurred at the Rockville Metro station at 2:38 p.m. and included an arrest eight minutes later at a nearby gas station.

Meanwhile, police at the Metro station interviewed a young man with blood on his arm, who was reportedly involved in an incident not related to the shooting.
Later in the day, around 5 p.m., Rockville City Police could be seen running along East Middle Lane, responding to an unspecified incident in Rockville Town Square that Treschuk said also was unrelated to the shooting.
