Students in the City of Rockville celebrated biking and walking to school—and being safe while doing it—as they participated in the 14th annual International Walk to School Day on Wednesday.

Four schools in the City of Rockville participated:

The safety awareness day is part of the city’s Safe Routes to School initiative and the city's pedestrian safety campaign, known as Smart Steps.

Click here for more on the city’s pedestrian programs and here for more on county walk-to-school festivities and the county's Safe Routes to School program.

If your school was one of the four in the City of Rockville participating in Walk to School Day—or if every day is Walk to School Day in your household—show us how your family participated.

The fine folks at Rockville 11 got us started with a couple of photos from Beall Elementary on Wednesday. We want to add your photos to the gallery.

Send your photos and thoughts about creating more walking- and biking-friendly communities to sean.sedam@patch.com and we’ll post them on Rockville Patch.

Rockville resident Temperance Blalock gave us her thoughts on pedestrian safety. You can read her opinion piece on pedestrian responsbility by clicking here.
