A Rockville man was in critical condition at Baltimore Shock Trauma.
Montgomery County police have identified five people taken to the hospital after a six-vehicle crash on Rockville Pike in Rockville on Friday.
A Rockville man suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident, which closed Rockville Pike for nearly seven hours.
For reasons still under investigation, a Volkswagen Tiguan traveling southbound in the 1200 block of Rockville Pike near Templeton Place around 10:28 a.m. crossed into northbound lanes, police said in a news release.
The Volkswagen struck the driver’s-side mirror of a 2006 Ford F-150 truck that was stopped in a northbound lane of Rockville Pike, according to police.
The Volkswagen continued south in a northbound lane, striking a black Chevrolet HHR in the intersection with Templeton Place, causing the Chevrolet to collide with a 2005 burgundy Cadillac SRX Cadillac, police said.
The Volkswagen then struck a 2009 silver Honda Civic stopped in a northbound lane and a northbound 2009 burgundy Pontiac Torrent, police said. The Volkswagen jumped a curb, traveled across a sidewalk, and came to rest in the parking lot of BMW of Rockville, at 1450 Rockville Pike, police said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, James Plakas, 61, of the 1200 block of Broadwood Road in Rockville, was taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma where he was in critical condition Friday, police said.
Four others, including the driver and passenger of the Volkswagen, were taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Police identified them as:
- Keegan David Lutchman, 31, of the 17100 block of Downing Street in Gaithersburg. Police said Keegan Lutchman was the driver of the Volkswagen.
- Annemarie Marion Lutchman, 56, of the 17100 block of Downing Street in Gaithersburg. Annemarie Lutchman is Keegan Lutchman’s mother and was a passenger in the Volkswagen, police said.
- Aletha Yvette Davis, 42, of the 12600 block of San Angelo Lane in Lusby, who was the driver of the Cadillac.
- Imran Arif, 41, of the 18000 block of Calabar Drive in Gaithersburg, who was the driver of the Honda.
The incident investigation closed Rockville Pike in both directions for several hours. Northbound lanes, which were closed for several hours after the two southbound lanes reopened, reopened around 5:15 p.m.
