With an opportunity to avenge an early-season loss to Whitman and potentially leapfrog the Vikings into second place, the Wootton Patriots fell just short, losing, 3-1, Feb. 3 at Rockville Ice Arena.

Wootton cut a two-goal Whitman lead in half with nearly four minutes to go in the third period before the rally was cut short by a penalty with 58 seconds remaining.

The Patriots (4-5-1 Montgomery Hockey Conference) finish the regular season Friday, Feb. 10 at Cabin John Ice Arena against Bethesda-Chevy Chase.

The two teams tied 5-5 in their only matchup this season.

Before the 8 p.m. game, Wootton will host its senior night celebration, honoring captains Anthony Corini, Patrick Sheridan, and Sam Haven.
