PHOTOS: 'My Favorite Rockville Place'

The winners of the city's National Community Planning Month photo contest.

 

The Rockville City Council on Monday recognized the winners of the city’s first-ever National Community Planning Month photo contest.

The "My Favorite Rockville Place" photo contest marked the American Planning Association’s October observance of the importance of community planning “as a means to build and preserve strong neighborhoods and civic place-making,” according to a city staff report.

Winners were selected based on entries that “best represented a favorite place in Rockville and displayed the greatest artistic and technical merit,” according to the staff report. All winners received certificates.

  • Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio.
  • City Councilman John Hall.
  • Historic District Commissioner Anita Neal Powell.
  • Planning Commissioner Jerry Callistein.
  • Community Planning and Development Services Director Susan Swift.

Under 18 Years of Age Category

  • 1st Place: A Dream Pond, by Wendy Risso.
  • 2nd Place: Nature, by Karina Lenning.

Over 25 Years of Age Category

  • 1st Place: I Can’t Believe It’s Water, by Marissa Tisch.
  • 2nd Place: The Living Among the Dead, by Carol Russell.

Honorable Mentions

Under 18 Years of Age Category

  • Little Cups of Light, Phoebe Hiltermann.
  • Preschool Playground, Johnny Newhouse.

Over 25 Years of Age Category

  • Thinking Green, by Hocde Frederic.
  • Night Magic, by Kate Lenning.
  • City Lights, by Lama Masri. 

*Winning entries were selected from each of the age categories for which photos were received. A first and second place winner was selected from two contest age categories: Under 18 Years of Age and Over 25 Years of Age.
