Looking to learn a new skill? Ready take up a new hobby? Rockville has several schools and a wide variety of shops that offer a range of classes. Here are a few:

  • Play an instrument. Levine School of Music, on Tuckerman Lane at the Music Center at Strathmore, offers a wide range of classes for woodwinds, brass, strings, guitar, keyboard, percussion and vocal. Group, ensemble and private classes and workshops are available. Call 301-897-5100.
  • Dabble in the fine arts. The Stone Branch School of Arts, on Rockville Pike, is a multimedia fine arts school with classes for children (age 3 and up) and adults. The school offers a textile pattern design workshop that is perfect for the aspiring fashion or interior designer. Call 301-294-3600. 
  • Draw, paint or sculpt. VisArts at Rockville, on Gibbs Street in Rockville Town Square, offers arts education classes for all ages from toddlers to senior citizens. Classes cover a host of mediums, from ceramics and metal working to photography and glass. Call 301-315-8200.   
  • Speak a new language. Berlitz Language Center, on Rockville Pike, offers instruction in a range of languages. The Rockville Berlitz location offers private and semi-private instruction and cultural consulting for adults, teens and children. Online classes are also available. Call 1-888-851-7626.
  • Make a quilt. Capital Quilts, just off of Shady Grove Road on Luanne Drive in Gaithersburg, offers a variety of classes for all skill levels in hand or machine quilting, piecing or appliqué. Classes show you how to create a quilt, garment or accessory. Call 301-527-0598.
