Think it’s too cold out to think about summer? Think again.
Registration is now underway for city and county summer camps.
City of Rockville summer camp registration opened Tuesday for city residents and opens Feb. 8 for non-residents.
County summer camps
Non-city residents looking to shore up summer plans for their kids can turn to Montgomery County Recreation.
The county recreation department’s summer camps guide is available at all county recreation, community and aquatic centers or online at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec. The guide includes affordable camps and programs focused on sports, nature, robotics, magic swimming and theater, to name a few. You can also learn more about Summer Fun Centers that offer daily drop-in programs.
Space is limited and early registration is encouraged.
The quickest and easiest way to register is online through RecWeb.
Registration is also accepted by fax at 240-777-6890 or by mail or in person between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Recreation Department Administrative Offices, at 4010 Randolph Road, in Silver Spring.

City summer camps
The city celebrates its 50th year of summer camps this year.
“When Rockville's first summer camps were held in 1962, only a handful of families took part in the programs,” according to a city news release. “Today, more than 2,000 campers, from ages 3 to 15, participate in a wide range of camp offerings.”
New offerings for 2012 include nature camps that teach art or wilderness skills and offer credit for student service learning hours; camps that feature themes based on books; football camp; and tennis camp for children 10-and-younger.
The city will again offer old favorites, including: Creative Crafts, in which children age 7-10 participate in a variety of multimedia projects; Mad Science camps for children ages 6-11 to explore Earth, outer space, secret agents and Science in Motion; camps on honing manners or writing skills; camps for preschoolers; and a variety of sports camps.
The city’s Summer Camp Guide and registration forms are available online and at city facilities. Register online with Rock Enroll, or fax a registration form to 240-314-8659 or mail or hand deliver it to the Department of Recreation and Parks, Registration Desk, Rockville City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave., Rockville, MD 20850.
