Metro Probing Why Doors Opened on Moving Train

The Examiner: Incident happened Tuesday morning on the Red Line.

This probably isn't what Metro had it mind when it adopted the slogan "Metro opens doors."

The transit agency says it is looking into why the doors of a Red Line train traveling in the direction of Shady Grove opened while the train was moving Tuesday morning, The Washington Examiner reported.

The incident occurred just after 9 a.m. in a tunnel between the Van Ness and Tenleytown stations, The Examiner reported.

No one was injured. The two cars on which doors opened were taken out of service, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel told The Examiner.

The cars are among the oldest in Metrorail's fleet, The Examiner reported.

The Unsuck DC Metro blog first reported the incident. The post included a photo of a car with its doors open. The blog also quoted a Facebook post in which a Red Line rider described a similar incident on Tuesday on a trip between Silver Spring and Takoma.

Years ago I was on the Dead Line when half of one door opened while in a tunnel. It immediately closed. I was so stunned to have witnessed this and to contemplate the horror of someone falling out, that I never even thought to report it.

Scary stuff, Jerry. Anyone else out there witness something similar on Metrorail? If so, did you report it?
