Man Gets Four Years in Fatal Rockville Pike Hit and Run

Michael Charles Dalton Jr. had been drinking.

A College Park resident who pleaded guilty in a hit and run that killed a Gaithersburg man riding a scooter on Rockville Pike in September was sentenced Friday to four years in prison, The Gazette reported.

Michael Charles Dalton Jr. pleaded guilty March 1 to homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence.

Roberto Nassar, 30, of the unit block of South Frederick Road in Gaithersburg, died as a result of injuries suffered in the Sept. 22 crash.

A police investigation found that Nassar was on a scooter traveling northbound on Rockville Pike near Edmonston Drive when the scooter was hit from behind by a tan 1997 Buick LeSabre. Nassar was ejected from the scooter. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Police spotted the Buick at 1:26 a.m. on Rockville Pike near Veirs Mill Road with the scooter attached to the front of the car, police said. Officers from the county police's 1st District and Rockville City Police stopped the Buick near Rockville Pike and Richard Montgomery Drive. Dalton was arrested.
