UPDATE: Funeral Details Released for Olney Crash Victims

The first of three funerals will be held Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi in Derwood.

Update, 8:45 p.m.:

County police are advising drivers to avoid the area around St. Francis of Assisi, in Derwood during and around the hours of 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, when the church will host funeral services for Haeley McGuire.

A large volume of traffic is expected and parking could overflow the church lot at 6701 Muncaster Mill Road into nearby parking lots and residential streets, police said in a news release.

No road closures are planned at this time. County police will be present to assist with traffic flow.

On April 6, 1999, Ms. Melissa Lynn Marvin, then living in Dare County North Carolina (The Outer Banks) decided that she wished to go and attend a concert some distance away. To do so, she drove. Ms. Marvin a waitress, and amateur surfer also decided that she needed some drinks before truly setting out.

So Ms. Marvin stopped at some watering holes and had several drinks.

Sufficiently lubricated, Ms. Marvin drove northbound on the Bypass, (Route 158) weaving in and out of traffic. Witnesses described Ms. Marvin as having her left foot up on, or resting it on the dashboard. When Ms. Marvin came to the intersection with Ocean Bay Boulevard, in Kill Devil Hills she passed through a red light, and struck a vehicle that was occupied by five teenagers who were enjoying Spring Break.

Three of the teens were dead on the scene, with the fourth to die shortly thereafter.

On her prior encounters with the police and courts, Ms. Marvin was treated leniently.

This time things would be different. Ms. Marvin was charged with drunk driving, and four counts of Murder. Ms. Marvin wasconvicted after trial and was found guilty of drunk driving and all of the murder counts.

Ms. Marvin was sentenced to four (4) fifteen year sentences, and the sentences are CONSECUTIVE. That is sixty (60) years.

North Carolina does not have parole, and Ms. Marvin continues to serve her sentence.
