Olympic kayaker and Darnestown native Caroline Queen says she wishes she had medaled, but was honored just to be in the Games representing the United States.
Queen fell short of placing for an Olympic medal last week in the Women's K1 event, finishing 17th.
"I would have liked to finish better in the competition," Queen wrote in a personal essay published on the Charlotte Observer. "But there was a lot more right about it than wrong."
Queen, 20, is a student at Davidson College near Charlotte, NC, and trained at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte.
Despite her loss in the race, she remains positive about her sport and excited about being part of the games.
"The greatest gift of this trip has been the honor of representing the U.S. in the planet’s greatest sporting event," she wrotes.
