Charges in Attempted Daytime Home Burglary

Rockville police arrested a man from Gaithersburg and a man from Germantown.

Two men are charged in connection with an attempted daytime burglary of a home in the 1500 block of West Kersey Lane on Tuesday.

Joshua R. Evans, 18, of Gaithersburg, and Alexander Patrick Jeffrey, 24, of Germantown, are charged with attempted first-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, according to a city news release. Evans also is charged with malicious destruction of property, the release said.

Evans is being held in the county jail in Rockville on $25,000 bond, according to online court records. Jeffrey was released Wednesday on $5,000 bond. Both men are scheduled to appear in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville at 8:30 a.m. on June 18.

City police responded to a call of a burglary in progress at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the home, just off Falls Road in the city’s southwestern corner.

An investigation revealed that someone had attempted to break a rear window of the home, the release said.

Officers found Jeffrey sitting in a vehicle near the home and took him in to custody, the release said. Evans fled on foot, the release said.

Police established a perimeter and searched the area with K-9s, the release said. Evans was taken into custody without incident near the intersection of Dunster and Falls roads, near Ritchie Park Elementary School, the release said,

Anyone who may have witnessed, or has information about the incident, is asked to call the Rockville City Police Criminal Investigations Unit at 240-314-8938.

Neither arrested individuals are new to the Slap-on-the-Wrist Maryland Criminal Justice System. Both in online Court records for past theft, drug possession & distribution, etc. Our courts and Judges continue to boggle my mind!!!

Maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to jump the gun Sharon. You are so quick to comment on every police report here on the patch, only knowing the preliminary details. Sounds to me like you need to get off your high horse.

With regard to stories about crime, I would like to remind our readers that while we get our information from police, what we report is not meant to indicate a conviction or suggest guilt. Please keep this in mind when commenting.

@Tiffany
Maybe it would be wise to NOT report this stuff until there is a conviction or guilt has been proven and there by avoid having folks passing judgement. I believe we have seen this happen on the national level as well.
Perhaps show some restraint.............

Great point Jeff. I feel for the family of the accused having to deal with a court of their peers before they even get into the county court. Im sure they have enough going on as it is.

@Jeff Hawkins, @SJ:
Done responsibly (an important caveat), without implying guilt or innocence (as mentioned by Tiffany), timely reporting on crime, including arrests and charges, can provide a valuable public service. If you ever feel like something was not reported fairly or accurately, I encourage you to let me know. Thanks, as always, for the feedback.
