DERWOOD
GOING TO THE DOGS
For
those of you who haven’t noticed, the construction site at the corner of
Muncaster Road and Airport Drive in Derwood, is for the new Montgomery County
Animal Center. The County has already given Derwood the Gude Dump, Garbage
Transfer Station, &Recycling Center, Liquor Authority Warehouse, County
Maintenance Yards, Ride-on Bus Depot, School Bus Depot, new Maintenance Area and
a Shady Grove Sector Plan that when implemented will inundate Derwood with
Traffic, why not the Dogs. Granted there is a need for a new animal Shelter,
but there is also a greater need for a Senior Center in the Derwood (mid-county)
area. There seems to be a blind spot in the County when it comes to the needs
of Derwood Seniors, with the disillusion that the Rockville City and
Gaithersburg City Senior Centers satisfy our needs. My personal experience is
that we who live in County Areas are not welcome in these centers based on the
cost for non-residents to join and the policies of these centers. The County
should address the needs of Seniors living in the Derwood area and provide
appropriate funding for a Senior Center. $17.5 Million for an Animal Shelter,
perhaps there may be room in the animal shelter for us Seniors ?
